Are you ready to take an AncestryDNA test? If yes, you need to go to the website www.AncestryDNA.com/activate to activate your AncestryDNA test first so that it will connect your kit to your Ancestry account. Follow the instructions below to learn how to activate your AncestryDNA test online.
How to Activate Your AncestryDNA Test Online:
Step 1: Open the website link www.AncestryDNA.com/activate in a standard website browser. If you live in UK, please visit https://ancestry.co.uk/dna/activate.
If you’re not signed in, click “Sign In“.
If you are signed in and you’re in the right account, click Continue as [Name]. If you don’t yet have an Ancestry account, just click on the “create a free account first” and follow the instructions to create a new account.
Step 2: Once you’ve selected your name, click “Next“.
Step 3: On the Enter Code page, enter your activation code and click “Next“. You can find the activation code (15 alternating letters and numbers) printed on your tube. Don’t enter hyphens.
Step 4: On the About You page, enter your birth year and sex and click “Next“. Read through the DNA Processing Consent. At the bottom, check the box to confirm that you consent to the collection of your DNA and other information. Click “Next” to continue activating your test.
Step 5: On the next page, select “Yes” to receive DNA matches or No to prevent receiving matches. Click “Next”.
DNA matches are people who have taken the AncestryDNA test who we believe to be related to you (based on your shared DNA). If you prefer not to be visible to relatives, it’s best to choose not to be listed as a match. If you’re interested in finding family members and in being found, select “Yes“. You can change this preference at any time.
Step 6: Choose your ethnicity display preferences and click “Next“.
When you allow others to view your complete ethnicity, geographic and cultural origins, they will be able to see your complete ethnicity estimate and list of ethnic regions and your Genetic Communities. If you chose not to be listed as a DNA match, you will not see this page.
Step 7: Review the information you’ve entered and click “Activate Kit“. Then you can start taking the test.
Important information
Activation codes have alternating letters and numbers in them and are printed on the side of the tube as well as on the instruction packet. The code is 15 alternating letters and numbers; don’t enter hyphens. If you no longer have the activation code, request a free replacement kit here.
Please keep your activation code until you’ve received your test results. We cannot begin processing a DNA sample until the test has been activated.
